The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras) is one of the premier colleges of engineering in the world. It is situated in Chennai ( formerly Madras ), India. It is one of 7 such institutes established all over the country in the 1960s as part of an initiative by the Government of India to provide high quality education in the fields of engineering and technology.
I. I. T Madras, is one of the largest institutes in the world and the second largest in India. Spread over a vast area of 600 acres (2.4 km?), of which almost 75% is greenery, it stands out as one the most beautiful campuses in India. The campus extends into the neighboring Guindy National Park, and has an abundant population of deer, blackbucks and various other forms of wildlife.
