Do I have a chance at snagging a scholarship?

Question: I'm a sophomore in high school. Freshman year I had a 2.1 GPA. This year, I have a 3.5 (I'm trying to raise it) and am taking a few accelerated classes. I'm going to take AP classes next year.

Here is where the twist comes in:
My dad has anger issues (diagnosed with bipolar) and my brother is autistic.

That's not all.....

In 5th grade, my mom was diagnosed with M.S./Alzheimer (the only way doctors can know exactly what it is is by an autopsy.) Because of this, most of my time spent at home was helping her (feeding her, keeping her entertained, and just making sure she isn't lonely) It's been slowly getting worse. Last year, it got to the point where she couldn't tell night from day. She would wake up at 2 AM and turn on all the lights. Consequently, I could never really get more than 2-3 hours of sleep. Two weeks ago she moved in with her mother who lives down the street. We plan to keep her there for awhile, then move her to a nursing home.

It wasn't until 2 months ago until I realized I never really had a mother. Despite this, I was able to step up and get ahead in my school work.

My dad is really pressuring me to get into a prestigious school like UC Berkeley or Stanford, but I realize this will be hard on him financially.

Taking my unique situation into consideration, do I have a good chance at getting a scholarship (preferably full-ride?)

Answer: Of course...
There are also scholarships through local organizations available. I dont know if your school has a counseling center or carreer center like my school does, but your school counselor will be able to give you tons of info on different types of scholarships.

you will have a much easier time getting a scholarship if you take on some leadership roles and do TONS of volunteer work. :)

best of luck to you :)

Others:

OK, there is no such thing as finding a scholarship for having brown eyes or being left handed. In your circumstance, yes you can get a scholarship and/or grants. And I really hope you aim for higher prestige then UC Berkeley or Stanford....
