Question: I would like to go into chemical engineering...I know most people take 4+ years to complete an engineering Bachelors degree, but I was wondering if it is possible to take 3 years or less to do so, and if anybody here has accomplished this. What does it require (as in, how many credit hours per semester, etc)?
Answer: Of course not. First off, if you take the maximum number of allowed courses, you would take 4 years. You have to get special permission from the dean to take more, and they usually don't give special permission just because you want to get out early. Plus you have to have a 4.0 and show MAINTAIN a 4.0 when taking more and more courses. Even then, many deans will not give permission.
If you do all that, then it is possible to graduate in about 3 years. But in case you missed it, it's next to impossible.

no way
no chance
yes 3 or 2.5 is the ones i heard
depending on if u have ever taken college engineering credits before u attend college? no, then u will take a bit more time
depending on how smart you are, there are still thousands of smart nerds who start their college as everybody else and finish the college in 3 years.
depending on if u are willing to take classes during the winter and summer. if u aint smart but u are willing to take classes during winter break or summer breaks, of course u finish faster...at a slower rate..
depending on the major u going after, IE? ME? EE? MSE?
which one?
*for Vaibhav, hi u are wrong and u can talk to Purdue TSA Eddie, u can check the website urself and contact him, he was in Purdue University and graduate EE degree in 3 years without prior taking college level courses or taking classes during winter and summer..his name is Eddie Chang...he is from Taiwan, and he is aiming for master now..TSA is taiwanese student association..u dont believe me, u track him down..and ask him..
*For Stacey, hi, actually most the people i know they actually finish in 4 years so...i dont know who u hang out with hehe..i know people from Cornell, Purdue and Ohio State who can finish in 4 ..although u may argue that OSU is a quarter system so they may finish more classes than as the semester systems..then i dont know what to say about the ones in Cornell and Purdue. As I mention earlier, Purdue, Eddie finishes his EE in 3.5 years..(with IQ 145) and Cornell University she finishes with biomedical engineering in 4.0 years....
but u are true, most people tend to finish 4-6 years and maybe i only know the nerds around the US...lucky were i
In addition, why not u taking classes during hs? i mean its not popular but it saves time and u wouldnt be saying 5 years if u took classes though?
*for MathGoddess, I dont know what u were talking about why u even mention about the GPA, maybe thats ur case but the poster is asking if it possible, to get a bachelor in 4 years? and obvious thats an Yes. Of course you did address that part that yea u need to get the permission for over load and stuff, and there are no reasons why the schools wont let their students graduate in 4 years..i mean more students can graduate in 4 years PUT a GOOD reputation to the school, so based on what u said, its bad, to me, the school would definitely strongly recommend their students to graduate sooner. Except you may argue that oh it wont happen since the school wont get more money or etc..but this aint the case here. Okay,, less than 3 is possible and if u think i only met werido then u are just messing with the non-studying ones..lol
Besides, for semester system, u can take 24 credits load, for quarter i guess 21 as well....i mean i even heard people can make a special agreement, well, more like a contact with the school dean and saying if u can overload, GPA doesnt matter. So its like saying you will be on your own about the classes loads and you need to take care of the GPA on your own. But in that case, he was studying law, wasnt engineering. He finishes some degree oversea, then finish Law degree in US in 2 years when he was suppose to finish in 4 years. If you insist to ask who is he? He is the prosecutor for the Taiwan President assassination back in 2004. I dont know his full name, but his last name is Lee.
I just finished my electrical engineering degree, and it wasn't possible to do in less than four years. This is because the second year classes require the first year classes as pre-requisites, the third year classes require the second year classes, etc. so it isn't possible to finish in less than four years. Most universities only offer engineering classes in the regular terms - that is, September to April - and it's not possible to take more than one year's worth of classes per year. (You might be able to take a calculus class or two in the summer, but that wouldn't be enough to put you ahead a year.) And my university definitely had a cap on how many classes per term you could take (6, which is only 1 more than the standard engineering 5.) The stress level is also very high, and most people I know needed 5 years. Good luck!
