Question: I have a 90 in law, 87 in religionn, 80 in english, and 57% in chemistry (ididn'tt try and could fail, exam worth 30%). My friend told me that i should take science because some universities dontt look at your application if you dont have a science. Should i take science or drop, hurting grades thanks.
Answer: I understand why your friend recommended taking Chemistry -- it makes you look like a well-rounded applicant. But I doubt that the admissions department would reject you if you didn't have a Science credit - it's not really a required course for the Humanities program at UofT. I know of plenty of students currently in the Humanities program who didn't take any Bio/Chem/Physics courses in Grade 12.
The admissions department is more concerned about your overall average, so it's best that your application reflects your best efforts. 57% is a terrible mark (sorry), and wouldn't look good on your application anyways. I would recommend that you drop Chemistry.
Your marks are great in Law, Religion, and English! Good luck with your other 3 courses.
Hope this helps.
Others:
Your friend seems extremely intelligent, he/she must be
a wonderful person to influence you to make such great
decisions. As for the university applications, it is true that
universities want you to be well rounded, and by not taking
science you are closing some doors- which you may regret
in the future. I suggest you take a lesser level science,
such as a college level. This will allow you to still
be involved in science without having low marks.
