Program Detail : A survey of important concepts in physics for the nonscience major, the course covers historical and philosophical issues as well as introducing principles of physics: forces and motion, conservation laws, heat, vibrations and waves, and electricity and magnetism. In the second part of the course, students may study either topics in modern physics (relativity, quantum mechanics, and nuclear and elementary particle physics) or topics stressing physics in everyday life (properties of matter, sound, and light and practical uses of electricity). Mathematics is not emphasized, but some algebra and geometry are used. Supervised final examination.
