Program Detail : This course explores the political economy of sub-Saharan Africa. While there is a wide-ranging debate about the precise meaning of ?political economy? in academia today, for our purposes it will be understood as the complex interrelationship of the major factors affecting development. These include, but are not confined to, the political, economic, demographic, geographic, and technological parameters of a given society. The notable diversity of the large, culturally plural, and increasingly volatile region of Africa south of the Sahara Desert makes this a considerable challenge for study.
